Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1/2 cup molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Steps to prepare Gingerbread Cookies:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the dough in half, wrap each portion in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out one portion of the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Repeat the rolling and cutting process with the remaining dough.
- Once cookies are completely cool, you can decorate them with icing or enjoy them as is.
Enjoy your delicious homemade gingerbread cookies!
